The Championship Play-Off represents the dramatic culmination of the EFL Championship season, offering one final chance for promotion to English football's top division. This prestigious tournament involves the teams that finish the regular season between third and sixth place. The competition system begins with two-legged semi-finals: the third-placed team faces the sixth, while the fourth-placed team competes against the fifth.
The first legs are played at the home ground of the lower-ranked team, with the second legs at the higher-ranked team's stadium, aiming to give a slight advantage to the latter. The winners of each semi-final, determined by the aggregate score of both matches (the away goals rule does not apply), meet in the grand final. This momentous single match is held at the legendary Wembley Stadium, a venue that adds even more grandeur to the event.
Often dubbed "the richest game in football," the victor not only achieves coveted promotion but also a financial impact that can transform the club's future, estimated in the hundreds of millions of pounds. Guaranteed excitement and decisive moments make this final a complete sporting experience.
